Cookies Policy

What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your computer or mobile device when you visit it.

  • Original cookies are installed by the website you are visiting. They can only be read by that website. In addition, websites sometimes use external services that set their own cookies - these are third-party cookies.
  • Persistent cookies are cookies stored on your computer which, unlike session cookies, are not automatically deleted when you close your browser.

Each time you visit the Commission's websites, you will be invited to accept or refuse cookies.

The purpose is to allow the site to remember your preferences (such as username, language, etc.) for a certain period of time.

That way, you don't have to re-enter this data when you browse the site during the same visit.

Cookies may also be used to create anonymized statistics about your browsing experience on our websites.

How do we use cookies?

European Commission websites mainly use original cookies. They are set and controlled by the Commission, not by external organizations.

However, to view certain pages, you will also need to accept cookies from external organizations.

We use 3 types of original cookiesfor:

  • store visitor preferences
  • ensure the smooth operation of the sites
  • collect analytical data (about user behavior)

Visitor preferences

These cookies are placed by us and only we can read them. They remember:

  • whether you have accepted (or refused) this site's cookie policy
  • if you have already answered the pop-up questionnaire (on how useful the website was to you), so that it will not be shown to you in the future

Analytical cookies

We use these cookies exclusively for internal research purposes, in order to improve the service we offer to all our users.

They only evaluate how you interact with our site as an anonymous user (the data collected does not personally identify you).

These data also not shared with any third party and are not used for any other purpose. Anonymized statistics may be shared with contractors working on communication projects under the terms of a contractual agreement with the Commission.

You have freedom to refuse this type of cookie - either on the first page you visit via the cookie banner.

Third-party cookies
